Guterres Says The UN And Himself Are Personally “Committed” To Cyprus And Its People

Speaking at an official ceremony, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres communicated to Cyprus’ new permanent representative to the UN Andreas Hadjichrysanthou that Cyprus is an important part of the UN and that both the organization and himself personally remain committed to Cyprus.

Guterres noted that they are creating the conditions for an informal 5+1 meeting to take place so that serious negotiations can begin.

Hadjichrysanthou responded by conveying President Nikos Anastasiades’ warm regards, reiterating his full commitment to an informal 5+1 meeting that would ultimately lead to substantial and results-oriented negotiations with the goal to reach a comprehensive, viable and lasting settlement based on a bicommunal, bi-zonal federation with political equality as is set out by the relevant Security Council resolutions and EU principles and values.
